Briggs Leaves Game With Groin Injury
The Bears confirmed the injury and said the linebacker won’t return to the game:
A fixture in the Chicago defense for the last 12 seasons, Briggs’ late career has been mired by injuries. He was limited to nine games in 2013 due to a shoulder fracture, and he was held out of three contests earlier this season with a rib injury. Greene and Christian Jones handled a majority of the snaps in Briggs’ stead.
A seven-time Pro Bowler, Briggs had been a bastion of health before the last two seasons. He missed four total games in the first decade of his career and was a fixture on Bears defenses that often finished among the league leaders. It’s been a far different story since Marc Trestman took over in 2013, with Chicago standing significantly below league average in Football Outsiders’ DVOA metric.
Depending on the severity of his injury, it’s possible Briggs has played his last snap in Chicago. If that’s the case, it’s an awfully disappointing way to go out.
