Chicago Bears outside linebacker Leonard Floyd has impressed throughout his rookie season, but he had to exit Saturday’s game against the Washington Redskins with a concussion.
According to the Bears’ official Twitter account, Floyd was officially ruled out after he entered the league’s concussion protocol. On Friday, the Bears announced Floyd did not take part in practice, and was doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.
This isn’t the first time Floyd has dealt with a head injury.
The No. 9 overall pick in the 2016 draft was carted off the field with an apparent neck injury during the Bears’ Week 11 loss to the New York Giants, and he was later diagnosed with a concussion following a scary scene at MetLife Stadium.
Floyd proceeded to miss Week 12 against the Tennessee Titans, but he returned in time to suit up for the Bears’ Week 13 showdown with the San Francisco 49ers.
When healthy, the Georgia Bulldogs product has flashed the tantalizing potential that made him such a coveted prospect in advance of the draft.
In 11 appearances entering Saturday, Floyd had racked up seven sacks, 32 total tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for a touchdown.
With Floyd banged up once again, Pernell McPhee should hold down the fort at left outside linebacker.
