The Bears were swept by the Lions today in a failed attempt to take control of the NFC North.

Final Analysis for the Chicago Bears

Passing Offense: Cutler’s injury was evident in his throws downfield. He was off on a couple of chances and the offense suffered because of it. The offensive line failed to keep their immobile quarterback clean in the pocket in the second half as well. 

Passing Defense: Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson didn’t have huge games, but poor red-zone defense on Johnson stood out in a close game. Chris Conte rebounded nicely after a couple of poor performances. 

Rushing Offense: The Bears really needed a good game from Matt Forte today, but they got nothing from him. He struggled to break through weak tackles and the offensive line gave him no holes up front. 

Rushing Defense: The defensive line and linebackers could not contain Reggie Bush in the second half. He totaled over 100 yards in under 20 carries. 

Special Teams: Robbie Gould nailed his field goals while Adam Podlesh and Devin Hester were average at best. Gould’s onside attempt was not good at all. 

Coaching: You have to wonder if Trestman’s decision to stick with Cutler cost his team a win. His two calls for the two-point conversions were beneath an offensive mind of his caliber. 

First-Half Analysis for the Chicago Bears 

Passing Offense: Cutler did a nice job spreading the ball around. He was strong in the pocket and threw some strikes to move the chains on third down. Red-zone turnovers are still the worst thing that can happen. 

Passing Defense: After giving up some chunks of yardage early on, the Bears began to get into the passing lanes. However, they still need to do a better job getting a pass rush on Stafford. 

Rushing Offense: Matt Forte has gained nothing running up the middle. Most of his success came from pitches to the outside. Still, the running game has not been able to get anything going. 

Rushing Defense: Reggie Bush and Joique Bell have combined for just 28 yards. The Bears have done great shutting the two of them down. 

Special Teams: The special teams unit has not been very active today, but the Bears have done well in terms of kick and punt coverage. 

Coaching: Trestman’s decision to go for it on fourth down rather than taking a shot at a field goal was questionable. In a tough divisional game like this, you should take any points you can get.
