ESPN.com’s Jeff Dickerson revealed Bennett was present for Monday’s open session.

Bennett’s Consecutive Games Streak Ended at 61

Bennett had played all 16 games in five of seven seasons in the NFL. He’s coming off a career year in 2014 in which he caught 90 passes and six touchdowns.

Despite the win against the Packers in Week 12, the Bears need Bennett in the lineup with the offseason loss of wide receiver Brandon Marshall and an injury to first-round pick Kevin White. Cutler can only depend on Alshon Jeffery with any regularity now that Bennett is down, and Jeffery has been banged up all season.

Star running back Matt Forte will become an even greater focus of the offense—depending on how healthy he is—but the matchup problems Bennett poses at the tight end position are something Chicago won’t be able to emulate while he recovers.

Veteran Zach Miller has rather reliable hands—he just isn’t the athlete Bennett is and cannot produce nearly as much as Bennett can as a pass-catcher.
