Mike Wallace to Bears: Why the Steelers WR Would Look Good in Chicago

The idea of Mike Wallace leaving the Pittsbburgh Steelers for the Chicago Bears seems too good to be true.

A few weeks ago, the Steelers let it be known that Wallace was out there for the taking. If a team is willing to forfeit their first-round pick, along with giving Wallace a favorable contract, the Steelers are in a position to let him walk to another team.

There is no question that the Chicago Bears need to pursue the young Wallace. They are in a division with two explosive offenses and could not compete with them due to a lack of firepower.

Granted, the injuries to quarterback Jay Cutler and running back Matt Forte hurt this team during the stretch run of the season. After all, this team appeared to be a potential contender in the NFC before the injuries.

However, the wide receivers on the rosters haven’t proven much. Devin Hester and Johnny Knox are incapable of being No. 1 targets on any team. In fact, I’m not so sure if they can even be effective No. 2 receivers on this team.

They are presented with an opportunity to sign one of the league’s elite wide receivers who is beginning to enter his prime years.

Wallace is 26 years old and is arguably the fastest receiver in the National Football League. He would be the perfect fit for Cutler. Not only will Wallace take advantage of Cutler’s strong arm, but he can be a consistent playmaker by simply turning screen plays into touchdowns.

The Bears will be provided with other options. Vincent Jackson will command interest from them, and Desean Jackson could be available in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ultimately, the Bears need to pull the trigger on Mike Wallace. It may be hefty giving up a first-round pick in the process, but Wallace could propel the Bears to a guaranteed contender within the NFC.
