The biggest news of Monday came from the defensive tackle position as we found out that Tommie Harris did undergo a second knee surgery in the spring, this time to repair scar tissue that was troubling him.

Harris still feels he will be a valuable piece of the puzzle in 2009, but as every day goes on I keep losing a little more faith in what No.91 will do this season.

Today was supposed to be the day he was in full pads and fully participating, instead we got to see him in pads, but out of any real action.

The weak secondary saw rookie Al Afalava practice with the first team defense as the free safety in the nickel set on Monday.

Afalava doesn’t come into camp with a ton of praise and admits to feeling “a step behind” due to not being fully aware of the defense yet. He did go on to say that he does study his playbook on a nightly basis.

I was most impressed with the running game of Matt Forte this afternoon, even more than the passing of Cutler. Credit the offensive line as he was getting very large holes to run through, he also seems to be a step quicker to me this year.

The running game as a whole was very impressive to me today.

Devin Armashadu has been receiving much publicity the last couple of days, as has Brandon Rideau.

Both were on the receiving end of long Jay Cutler passes today that made the crowd cheer as loud as they did all day.

Earl Bennett made a couple nice plays in practice as well, but was also seen vomiting on the sideline towards the end of practice.

I just hope this group of wide outs can be somewhere near average this year because the rest of the offense appears to be fairly strong.

It wouldn’t be a Bears practice without an injury or two to pass along: Tight End Fontel Mines was carted off the field with a knee injury this afternoon while linebacker Jamar Williams walked off the field with a shoulder injury.

No word yet on how serious either of the two injuries are.

Finally, depth charts for Saturday’s game will be made available in the next day or two.

There were rumors flying that we would see them today but it didn’t quite happen that way, I’ll keep you posted when I hear.

Practice is set for 7pm on Tuesday night in Bourbonnais, talk to you again after that.
