The Chicago Bears could be looking to sign Michael Bush as insurance if Matt Forte doesn’t want to sign their franchise offer.
Says NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora:
Bears looking at RB Michael Bush; Matt Forte could be headin for a holdout, not gonna sign franchise tag soon. Makes sense #freeagency

It does make sense.
As good as Forte was for the Bears before getting injured, can you honestly say there would be much of a drop-off in production with Bush?
The worst-case scenario here would be that the Bears sign Bush, Forte holds out and Bush starts.
Big deal.
The Bears offense wouldn’t miss a beat, even if Forte gets so pissed that he doesn’t even want to play in 2012.
The best-case scenario would be that the Bears sign Bush, Forte decides he wants to get in on the action and signs his franchise offer and the Bears end up with the best one-two punch in the entire NFL to go along with an explosive passing attack.
That would be terrible, I know. Bears fans would hate to see this happen.
In the end, you have to say that new general manager Phil Emery’s first couple days have shown he’s aggressive, savvy and smart.
Bringing in Brandon Marshall, baggage and all, instantly upgraded the team’s ability to challenge all parts of the field in the passing game.
Adding Bush would strengthen the running game significantly, allowing the Bears to impose their will upon any defense their opponents try to throw at them.
So far things are looking good for the Bears.
There is sure to be much more coming in this developing story, so stay tuned for all the breaking news and analysis as the NFL’s free-agency period continues to roll along.
