Restricted free-agent linebacker Jamar Williams signed the one-year tender offer he received from the Chicago Bears today.

A 2006 fourth round pick out of Arizona State, Williams has appeared in 51 games, making 87 and one sack.

He started two games last season filling in at weakside linebacker for Lance Briggs and started one game in Briggs’s absence in 2007 as well.

In the St.  Louis game last season, Williams exploded with 19 tackles, his career best. The 19 tackles made by Williams was the third most by a Bears player in a game since at least 1995.

The 25-year-old Williams has the potential to be a starter in the NFL and so does Nick Roach and Hunter Hillenmeyer, which is why yet again the Bears linebacker group is considered one of the best in the league.

If Urlacher and Tinoisamoa can stay healthy then the Bears can show the NFL just how good this unit is.

Williams will likely be elsewhere next year, but he is one hell of a special teams player and a solid backup to Lance Briggs.

DE Mark Anderson and S Danieal Manning are now the only restricted free agents who haven’t signed their tenders.

They are looking for long term contracts, considering there both young talented and starters for the upcoming season.
