Rod Marinelli has been coaching since the early 1970’s. Yet, during his entire coaching tenure he has never been named defensive coordinator. But this year, Rod will get his chance with the 2010 Chicago Bears.
Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo feel confident this move will bode well with the defense. They feel that Marinelli brings in so much knowledge and experience to the defense as a whole.
Marinelli is known for being one of the best defensive line coaches in the entire NFL, but will this success transition into the defensive coordinator role?
Many people are talking about the 2010 season being a big season for this coaching staff. The staff will be completely revamped after the end of the season, assuming another dismal performance.
The Bears’ organization has made a lot of moves this off season to prevent that from happening. They say they need better players. Now that they have gotten them, there is no one else to blame, right?
We all know that Rod Marinelli is great at teaching young players all the tid-bits of information to make them an elite NFL player. But that is at the defensive line position. What about the linebackers, corner-backs, safeties? How will he mentor them?
Marinelli’s sole focus his entire career has been the defensive line. Now he is responsible for positions he has never coached. While doing all this, he is also in charge of the progression of our young core defensive line players, such as: Mark Anderson, Marcus Harrison, Jarron Gilbert, Henry Melton and Corey Wooton.
So the big question is, is this a complete failure on many levels, or is this a ingenious move waiting to happen?
