The Seahawks have already traded the No. 37 pick for a 2010 first round pick of the Denver Broncos.
Excellent trade, has an upside to be a top ten pick, way to be a go-getter Ruskell.
This will give them further ammunition to move up in next years draft to grab QB’s McCoy, Tebow, or Bradford, brilliant, just brilliant
Having being done for the first day I turned my attention to other things, but still had the draft on in the background.
All of a sudden; the Seahawks on the clock, at No. 49.
Scanning the list of the top remaining players I saw C Max Unger, and DE Everett Brown, two guys that could have gone in the first round, still were there.
They struck gold with last years 2nd round pick, trading up to get TE john Carlson, who is fast becoming a top TE.
With the 49 pick in the NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select:
Max Unger.
Great pick, he gives the Seahawks options on the line and allows them to move first round bust C Chris Spencer to G in attempt to make up for the letdown he has given Seattle fans.
Unger plays with a mean streak and has a relentless motor, and does an excellent job reaching the second, and third levels of blocking, he can slide in and start right away.
He can learn from the top T in the league, Walter Jones, he has played every line position, so he gives us even more additional versatility, they can groom him where they see fit.
He does not even need to rush to start if necessary, the team has another versatile OL in T Ray Willis who could have left to become a starter elsewhere.
They payed the Bears a somewhat steep price, a third and fourth rounder, for the No. 49 pick. Last year they gave up what I said was too much to Baltimore for TE Jon Carlson, look how that turned out.
Another trade they made eases this blow though, snagging that first rounder for the No. 37 pick from the Broncos, I love that deal.
Lets look at the draft breakdown, with their first four picks, this is what the Seahawks yield gain, (or loss, if your opinion is different.) is:
No. 4 pick – LB Aaron Curry, the drafts top rated player
No. 37 pick – 2010 first rounder, potential to be a top 15
No. 69, No. 105- C Max Unger, can start if needed, could have gone late 1st round
They added two starters, formed the top young trio of LB’s, and got a 2010 first round pick, which gives them flexibility In a draft where Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, and Colt McCoy, could all be had.
In addition to what appears to be an excellent first day of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Seattle Mariners are currently up 3-0 on the Anaheim Angels.
A great day for the donners of Seattle bright green.
