Something For Bears Fans To Look Forward To/ Not Just Another Jay Cutler Article

Yes, you read correctly. Yet again you are reading an article wherein a Chicago Bears fan weighs in on the most recent controversies that have been swirling around quarterback Jay Cutler.
Firstly, may I politely request that fellow fans refrain from calling for this young man’s head on a proverbial platter? As many have already aptly stated, it is one thing to dislike Cutler for his avoidance of all media outlets or for his seemingly ambivalent attitude, but quite another to question the toughness of a quarterback who has played behind weak protection and who has absorbed a league high 50-plus sacks during the 2010 regular season.
Most of us who love the city of Chicago and its professional football representatives have become nearly nauseous to hear about and see inebriated “fans” burning Cutler jerseys in effigy.
It makes one wonder whether some of these particular fans have starved for a competent winning quarterback for so long that it would seem unnatural to actually support and be satisfied with the current player at this position.
May I submit that Jay Cutler gives Bears fans much to be optimistic about moving forward, and we have reason to believe that his decision-making skills will continue to improve and that this team can again take another serious run at postseason hardware, i.e. the George S. Halas Trophy and of course the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2012’s playoffs.
This is not another Rex Grossman situation with a incredibly mediocre quarterback. Jay shows potential to be one of if not the greatest quarterback to ever toss the pigskin for Chicago football’s founding franchise.
My greatest concern is whether Cutler can rise above the malice that has been spewed at his character as of late, and that he can silence his critics by bringing home the prize.
My wish is that Bears fans could unite behind this quarterback with such great potential and not crush him beneath waves of hatefulness and cynicism. Fellow Bears fans, I believe we are at a crossroads in which we can either see Jay Cutler rise to his potential or see him buckle underneath the mounting and enormous pressure to measure up in a city that has such high hopes for its current football club.
As painful as it was to be dispatched by our most-hated opponent in the Green Bay Packers just weeks ago, one simply should choose to be optimistic after witnessing such wins late in the season as the games versus the Eagles and the Jets.
Remember that the Jets boast a formidable defensive unit and an offensive unit that is on the rise as well. Our beloved Bears were able to put up 38 points against this particular AFC opponent.
Was the 2010 season’s ending a painful disappointment? Most definitely. Do Chicago Bears fans have much to look forward to in anticipation for the 2011 season? Well, providing that the team’s management and brass will pursue critical missing components via free agency this offseason, ABSOLUTELY.
