The New Era for the Bears Begins with Voluntary Workouts on Tuesday

Since the Chicago Bears have a new head coach, they’ll get a bit of a head start on their offseason workouts, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
According to the new CBA, a team that has hired a new coach gets a two-week head start on everyone else.
This will be the first time in nine years that the team has begun practicing without Lovie Smith, but more changes will be on the horizon.
New head coach Marc Trestman has been brought in to fix the offense and, hopefully, get Jay Cutler to fulfill the full promise of his abilities.
In order to do this, he’s started work on getting the offensive line into shape by signing left tackle Jermon Bushrod and replacing the departed Lance Louis with guard Matt Slauson.
Of course, this will come down to more than just improving the offensive line’s blocking.
Adding Martellus Bennett at tight end gives Cutler another dynamic weapon to go with Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall and (hopefully) a fully healthy Alshon Jeffery.
Trestman has overseen some very good offenses, both in the Canadian Football League as well as previous stints with NFL teams like the Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals.
While the offense gets a makeover, the defense has some holes to fill as well, since Brian Urlacher will not be returning. Bringing back Henry Melton will be a big help, and overall, one thinks the basics of a defense which has been among the best will remain unchanged.
It will be some time before we get a really good look at this team and what it can do, but we’ll be analyzing every news bit which comes out of workouts, no matter how small, so we can get an idea of what’s in store for fans and opponents next season.
