The Night Before Playoffs…

This is dedicated to all Bears Fans across the nation, struggling to get in the Christmas Spirit…

‘Twas the night before playoffs, and at Halas Hall,
Not a player was stirring, ‘cuz they’d hit a wall.
Their jerseys were hung in their lockers with care,
Knowing August 2010 would be the next time they’d wear.

’09 had indeed been a dismal display,
Shown through Lovie’s lack of preparation to play.
But to build on that, and here’s the kick,
Good ol’ Jerry had left the Bears with no decent draft pick.

To Chicago came Cutler, and the media blew with chatter,
Though disgusting play left all wondering what was the matter.
A “high-powered” offense was to be the Bears new face,
and Jerry’s best insurance was overpriced Orlando Pace.

The Bears were supposed to rule with an iron fist,
and that further seemed dashed when 54 hurt his wrist.
Away to the film rooms, the team would supposedly go,
But attended each Sunday with nothing to show.

With inexperienced wideouts lacking the quicks,
It became quite the norm for Cutler to throw picks.
And the offensive line did their part too,
Giving Jay one second to throw.  Ok, sometimes two!

The defense faltered just as bad as the “O”,
And left many wondering if they deserved to be Pro.
Though 54 was sidelined, he continued to yap,
and fans only wished he’d shut his overpriced trap.

“Now Devin! Now, Jay! Now, Lance think fast!
I’m telling you how to play, because I’m in a cast!
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m sure they’re glad he was there!
Because all this time, Lovie had a blank stare”

And then out of nowhere, a yellow flag came,
Omiyale just committed his 5th false start of the game.
Looking ever so frustrated, Lovie ran with a bound,
Only to throw his red flag down on the ground.

With all confidence gone, and timeouts wiped clean,
Trusty Ron Turner threw another Receiver Screen.
They gained 10 yards, then lost themselves nine,
So Ron thought, “I think it’ll work, maybe one more time”.

With all this happening throughout the city,
Angelo just looked for more and more pity.
He spoke of the future, he spoke of the core,
And Sweaty Teddy just paid Jerry and Lovie some more.

Now it came Hester’s turn to talk about more bad play,
Though nobody could quite understand what he had to say.
He posted to twitter, blogs and such,
Then retracted and clarified, saying the media twisted it much.

Finally the season started drawing to an end,
Left with many bad decisions for the front office to defend.
Was trading for Cutler and Adams bad concept?
Or was this front office that truly inept?

Lovie spoke not a word as he stood at the stand,
It was if he was playing poker, and everyone knew his hand.
The questions kept coming, – he was poked and prodded,
All the time going by, he just smiled and nodded.

Then a reporter read a question from a letter,
Lovie, when will you and Jerry help this team get better?
He turned to leave the room, then heard him declare,
“Merry Christmas to all, and we’ll go from there!”
