Latest on Benjamin’s Practice Status
Thursday, Nov. 3
Per Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Benjamin was among the Chargers who did not take part in the team’s early practice session Thursday.
On Wednesday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Benjamin was diagnosed with a Grade 2 PCL sprain that doesn’t require surgery.
Benjamin, who leads the team in receptions and is tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns, has become the Chargers’ go-to option at receiver.
His absence would put more pressure on Tyrell Williams and Dontrelle Inman to produce for a thin receiving corps. Tight ends Antonio Gates and Hunter Henry, who have combined for 492 receiving yards and six touchdowns, should also see increased targets if Benjamin misses game action.
Benjamin signed a four-year deal with the Chargers in the offseason after spending his first four years with the Cleveland Browns.
The Chargers are 3-5—three games behind the division-leading Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos—heading into their Week 9 showdown against the Titans. They can’t afford to lose more ground in the AFC West, so the possibility of playing without a key weapon looms large.
