Young Unhappy with Role in Bears Defense
Sunday, Oct. 4
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported Sunday that Young has asked the team to be traded, citing a preference to play defensive end rather than outside linebacker.
On one hand, the idea the Bears would trade two pass-rushers in the span of a week or two seems crazy. Chicago would be shooting itself in the foot if it not only moved Allen, but also one of the players tasked with taking over some of his snaps.
Then again, the franchise may be in serious rebuilding mode. The Bears traded Jon Bostic around the same time as Allen, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday the front office may not even consider Matt Forte untouchable.
If the franchise is willing to entertain offers for Forte, then surely that would be the case with Young.
The 30-year-old isn’t a prolific pass-rusher, but he would have plenty of value to the right team. Let’s not forget he’s just one year removed from picking up 10 sacks.
The asking price for Young likely isn’t prohibitively high, so he could very well be on a new team in the near future.
