With the Bears Releasing Vasher, It’s Bowman’s Chance to Shine

As the Bears released former Pro Bowl corner back Nathan Vasher, that opened up the doors for Zack Bowman.

Bowman started last year after Vasher was benched. Now in March, Bowman knows he’s the No. 2 guy in Chicago already—possibly a confidence booster.

Bowman will line up next alongside veteran corner back Charles Tillman.

But are the Bears set at corner back? Bowman has about a year-and-a-half of limited experience, while Tillman has veteran experience. Other than that, the Bears are slim at the position.

There are a decent amount of corner backs available in the draft, but with no picks until the third round, it will be tough to find a serviceable corner back that’s going to make an impact right away.

Bowman has shown signs of being a reliable corner in this league, but he’s also shown he can be beat at times.

Do you really trust a third-year player lining up against a No. 2 receiver, or at times against a superstar wide receiver? I’m not too confident in his cover ability in that situation.

Seeing his first action in 2008 as a rookie, Bowman got hurt and never saw the field the rest of the season.

This past season, Bowman was bugged by minor injuries and at times missed some series on defense.

Regardless, the Bears seem to have made it clear that Bowman will be the guy and will get his chance. It’s just up to him to prove it.
